Can I use my private health insurance for osteopathy?

How much can I claim on private health insurance for osteopathy?

The amount you can claim on your consultations will depend on your individual insurance policy.

Can I claim on the spot at the time of payment?

Yes, private health insurance claims can be made on the spot in most cases. WorkCover claims will need to be paid in full on the day and claimed later using an invoice.

Do I need a General Practitioner (GP) referral before osteopathy treatment?

No. You do not need a GP referral to undergo osteopathy or massage therapy treatment. However your GP may recommend osteopathy treatment to you and may include it in a Chronic Disease Management (formerly Enhanced Primary Care or EPC). Please bring any documents your GP has provided with you to your initial consultation.

Do I need to undergo medical imaging before my initial consultation?

No, not necessarily. Osteopaths are trained in performing clinical assessments and making a diagnosis from the assessment. If clinically indicated, your osteopath will advise you if imaging will be of benefit to your condition and treatment. However, if a medical practitioner has referred you for imaging prior to your appointment, please bring the report and images to your initial osteopathy consultation.

How many treatment sessions will I require?

Treatment requirements are different for each person and are dependent on a number of factors such as the presenting condition, past and current medical history and the goals of the individual. Your osteopath will provide you with guidance on your treatment at your initial consultation.

Should I take my prescribed medications before or after my osteopathy sessions?

We recommend you take your medications as prescribed by a medical practitioner.
