Injury & Rehabilitation Osteopathy Box Hill & Burwood East

Nothing is more frustrating than being injured and being unable to do the things you love!

At Box Hill Osteopathy we provide osteopathy care for injury and rehabilitation at our Box Hill and Burwood East clinics.

A common question people ask when injured is why the injury happened? Some injuries can’t be prevented due to accidental falls or things that are beyond our control. In other instances injuries occur because we have exceeded the capacity of current tissue strength.

Osteopathy aims to remove the barriers to your body healing itself. Osteopaths want to know why you are still in pain and not getting better. Osteopaths treat more than just the injured part; we consider how the mechanics of both the injured parts and adjacent parts of the body are interacting.

Osteopathy is a form of holistic therapy, which considers all lifestyle factors that could be preventing your body from healing. Osteopaths may offer advice on clinical rehab, exercise planning and programing and the fastest way forward to peak condition.

At Box Hill Osteopathy we provide a holistic therapy for sports injuries and rehabilitation.

An injury involves some form of tissue disruption from a traumatic or semi-traumatic event. These can include muscle strains, ligament sprains, shoulder and clavicle dislocations and avulsion fractures. Injuries also occur when people overuse their bodies. Examples of these include bursitis, tennis elbow and shin splints.

Symptoms may include pain, stiffness swelling, redness, aching, shooting pain, or reduced range of motion.

Certain sports injuries will require immediate medical attention. These injuries are beyond the scope of immediate osteopathic intervention. If you are concerned that you have broken a bone or dislocated a limb, then you should present to the nearest hospital or GP clinic.

As Osteopaths we do not reduce shoulder dislocations or manage fractures. However, post urgent care we can provide treatment and advice to help you get back to doing the things that you love as quickly as possible. We can also help to diagnose these injuries requesting imaging if indicated.

Osteopathy is a holistic therapy that uses three main avenues for rehab. These include: manual therapy, clinical specific exercises and lifestyle advice.

Recovery depends on a number of issues. Each tissue has a healing time that differs depending on its blood supply. For example, Tendons have a poor blood supply and as a result take longer to heal. Other factors that influence recovery include, prior fitness levels, and how well you are able to adhere to a recovery program. In times of stress and or periods in which we don’t get as much sleep as necessary, recovery will take longer.
